Union-Negotiated Raises

Jun 21, 2024 | Negotiations Recap 2024, News

This year, there will not be merit raises tied to your evaluations. Instead of getting merit raises determined by supervisors, we will get a union-negotiated raise!

We will be beginning our discussion of raises with management at the bargaining table on July 10th. The bargaining team will say:

We do not want merit raises.

The merit raise system has not worked for us and when we polled members with the question “Is the current system for determining raises fair?” about 90% said no. Merit raises have not kept up with inflation and they are too subjective. They open the door to favoritism and bias.

We need to fix salary compression.

Right now, people with a few years of service are making the same salaries as people who have been here a long time. We should have a system that rewards years of service with higher salaries.

It’s time for a big raise.

In their last contract, the PAs negotiated a 17% raise over three years. The nurses recently negotiated a 25% raise over four years. Those are the kinds of raise we deserve.

Will we get it? That’s up to you.

The more people who join UMMAP, wear a UMMAP button, and show up to union events to participate, the better a raise we will get.

We are worth it!

In solidarity,
Penni Toney – UMMAP President
