Fair Contract Now!

Jul 19, 2024 | Event Update, News

At the negotiating table, Michigan Medicine leadership has been dragging their feet.  They have been disrespectful, through their actions and words.  This has been a seven month long filibuster and we’re not alone.  Our siblings in SEIU are having a similar experience.   Our President, Penni Toney, spoke about this at the Regents’ Meeting on Thursday, July 18th.

We’re being treated like second class citizens.  Management has shown disdain towards Respiratory Therapists, stating they were lucky to have jobs during COVID!  It’s time to put more pressure on the administration!

This is about fighting for respect, better wages and working conditions, so we’re going to make a public show.  On Monday, July 29th at 6am, we are joining forces with SEIU for an Informational Picket. To RSVP follow this link:  SEIU / UMMAP Informational Picket Registration.

Note:  This is not a strike, work-stoppage, or walk-out.  If you are scheduled to work, don’t walk away from your job.

We are gaining strength daily and will be planning more actions like this in the upcoming weeks.  Our Contract Action Team is an essential part of planning these actions.  If you would like to join, fill out this form:  UMMAP Bargaining Commitment Form.

Update on the Pizza Button Campaign

We appear to be getting under the administration’s skin.  We’re hearing and seeing a number of communications from management directing our members to remove the pizza button.  Our approach on buttons will be: Obey now, grieve later.

This is not a surprising response and a classic management anti-union tactic.  It comes directly after launching our Fair Compensation Request Letter campaign this past Wednesday, July 17th.  Over 1,000 UMMAP members sent letters to Dr. Runge, Dr. Miller and the Board of Regents.

We are getting to them, which means the pressure is working. Keep it up everyone and do not hesitate to contact us at rep@ummap6739.org if you need help navigating situations as they come up.
