Significant Moves on Negotiations

Aug 31, 2024 | Negotiations Recap 2024, News

Our bargaining team made a significant negotiations move on Wednesday, proposing to package all outstanding non-economic contract items together to greatly speed up the bargaining process and shift negotiations to salary and other economic items.

The team proposed a package of 14 contract items, including attendance, bereavement, management rights and more. It’s typical in package proposals to include some wins for the union, some items that management wants, and compromises in other areas, in an attempt to settle multiple items at once.

While management didn’t provide a counter proposal to our package on Wednesday, they did commit to responding to us with their own package proposal, an encouraging sign that should help speed up the bargaining process. Management also indicated they will give us a counter proposal on Salary in the next couple of weeks.

Collective action by members continues to build pressure on Michigan Medicine leadership to reach a deal with us.

BARGAINING CONTINUES NEXT WEEK

The Master Agreement Bargaining Team will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday next week in order to complete bargaining over the non-economic components of the master agreement. Management agreed to the deadline at our request.
