About Us
United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP) is a multi-bargaining unit union of health care workers spanning across Michigan Medicine. With a commitment to an open, transparent, and cooperative process, UMMAP is fostering an equitable workplace culture at Michigan Medicine, ensuring that health care professionals are given the respect and support they deserve.
We are not always compensated fairly or equitably for the work we do, and many are overburdened by unreasonable workloads. We are frustrated by the lack of transparency from hospital administration. We are underrepresented in the process of making decisions that directly affect our work environment and ability to do our jobs.
UMMAP is working to address these concerns and promote equity, transparency, and respect.
UMMAP is working to create a more transparent environment where medical professionals have a voice in the decisions that affect us and are able to do the work we’re qualified to do.
A fair deal for allied professionals will make our entire community stronger. Obtaining equitable compensation and respect for allied professionals will improve our lives as individuals and strengthen our entire hospital system by reducing burnout. We play a critical role in the health care team ensuring patients receive the care they deserve. What we are asking is the university and hospital administration to set us up for success.
Our Mission & Vision
As professionals at one of the largest health institutions in the country, our ability to provide exceptional patient care requires a broad skill set, advanced knowledge and experience. For this reason, we deserve fair compensation reflective of the revenue we generate along with other workers, as well as rights, benefits, policies, and procedures that recognize our valuable contributions to the organization. Our goal is to achieve excellent patient care while maintaining a healthy life outside of work.

2018
Unionizing Began
We began talking about forming a new union.
2020
Interest Grows
We take the brunt of budget cuts and layoffs at the height of COVID. As at-will employees, we begin to see the union difference.
2022
We become UMMAP!
2023
1st Bargaining Unit Recognized
The Diagnostic bargaining unit gains recognition in February. June, more job titles are accreted into the Diagnostic bargaining unit. December, Behavioral Health & MAs gain recognition.
2024
Negotiating Our 1st Contract
We continues grow. January, Rehab gains recognition & negotiations begin. March, Lab gains recognition. We grow our strength and take action to win a strong first contract.
2025
1st Contract Ratified
January, we reach a tentative agreement. February, members overwhelmingly voted to ratify our first contract.
