Retro Pay Update

Jun 30, 2025 | News

Our union-negotiated retroactive pay was issued in the final paycheck of June for both biweekly and monthly employees. Use this worksheet and consult the simple FAQ below to determine if your retro pay is correct.

WHAT IS RETRO PAY?

Retro pay is the difference between your pre-contract pay rate and your union-negotiated pay rate. The principle is to pay you what you should have been earning had the Compensation article taken effect on November 1, 2024 (contract start date).

WHERE CAN I SEE MY RETRO PAY?
All employees should be able to view their retro pay amount on their paystub available on Wolverine Access. Retro pay is a separate breakout on the check called “Prior Period Regular.”

WHAT PERIOD IS COVERED?
The contract states: “All bargaining unit employees will have a rate of pay established retroactive to the first full pay period beginning on or immediately after November 1, 2024.” Retro pay only covers the period before raises took effect. This is 24 weeks for hourly employees (November 10 to April 27) and six months for exempt employees.

WHICH PAYMENTS ARE INCLUDED?
We have confirmed with management that retroactive pay shall include the following payments:

  1. Salary
  2. Overtime
  3. Call pay
  4. Shift differentials
  5. Holiday pay
  6. Added duty differentials

Remember, the union has filed for arbitration to challenge management’s refusal to include the new payments established by the contract: Float Pay, Preceptor Pay, and Lead Pay. If you were already receiving Lead pay before the contract, then it should be included in your retro pay amount.

MY YEAR ONE PLACEMENT IS WRONG – WHAT SHOULD I DO?
You should still assess whether your listed retro pay amount is correct based on your currently assigned rate of pay. If your pay rate is later corrected as part of the dispute or grievance process, you will receive a corrected retro pay amount on a future check.

WHAT IF MY RETRO PAY IS WRONG (OR I AM UNSURE IF IT’S WRONG)?

  1. Contact a union rep – find your steward here: https://ummap6739.org/find-your-rep/
  2. Do the math. Use this worksheet to determine if your retro pay is correct.
  3. If your retro pay is incorrect, please fill out this form. The union will send your submission to Labor Relations who will review the dispute and provide a response.
