This page provides information about the wage review for the year two salary adjustment under the contract. The year two raise will take effect on November 1, 2025.
You will want to submit a Year 2 Wage Review request IF you have:
- prior direct work experience in your current job title before you started work at UM
- prior comparable work experience either at UM or another employer
- additional education/credentials/certifications that are relevant and not required for your job. (Required credentials are a condition of employment and will not count for additional credit.)
The Year 2 Wage Review functions as a recalculation of your Year 1 scale placement.
For example, Jane and Teresa have both worked two years at Michigan Medicine and both have ten years of direct experience prior to coming to MM. Jane was placed at Step 2 in Year 1, so will move to Step 12 to count the prior experience. Teresa was placed on Step 12 in Year 1, so will not receive additional steps; her experience prior to MM was already included in setting her salary. Both will move to Step 13 on November 1, 2025

How do I submit a Year 2 Wage Review request?
If you work at Michigan Medicine, you will need to submit a request for a wage review for year two using Service Now. This Job Aid shows you how to do that. Employees who work on campus must contact their HR representative to request a wage review. You must fill out and include this employment history form as part of your request. Download the form and open it in a web browser to fill it out.
A completed Employment History Form must be attached as part of your request.
I have disputed my year one placement. Do I need to wait for that to be resolved before I submit the year two wage review request?
No. Everyone who wants to submit the year two wage review is encouraged to do so ASAP.
What counts as comparable or relevant work experience for the year two salary?
The union and management are still negotiating what counts for each job title. Our advice is to list any and all work experience that you believe is relevant and/or comparable just in case.
The HR email says we must provide proof of certifications and registrations. Is that really necessary? Don’t they have that already?
Yes, it is necessary. We have confirmed that HR expects employees to attach proof of their credentials as part of their request.
Do I need to provide proof of past employment?
You are strongly encouraged to provide proof of prior work experience with your request. HR will validate work history but they may require you to submit evidence of prior employment later in the process. So, even if you do not include it now, you may have to later.
If your prior employer no longer exists, i.e., they are no longer in operation, you should still include it in your request but you are encouraged to obtain your work history from the IRS or Social Security Administration (SSA).
Here’s a guide for accessing your prior work history through the SSA website for free. As the guide says at the top, not everyone will be able to access the detailed view of their records.
What kind of proof of prior work experience will HR accept?
Below is a list provided to the union by Labor Relations:
- Old pay stubs or tax documents (like W-2s or 1099s)
- Social Security earnings statements, which list employers and income by year
- Letters of recommendation or reference from former supervisors or colleagues
- Resumes or job applications from that time, if you kept copies
- Unemployment or pension records, if applicable
- Employment verification letters from former employers
- Performance reviews from previous positions
- Official correspondence on company letterhead from previous employers
When do I have to submit my wage review request?
The deadline is July 31st, but everyone is encouraged to get it in as soon as possible.
