This post shares the finalized Comparable Experience Review (CER) Chart, which determines how education and prior experience will be credited in November, 2025 (“Year 2”) raises. It contains instructions for making sure your raise is correct. Everyone will also receive a general 3% raise in November and most employees will move up a step on the scale for an additional 1.25% beyond that. We also provide information on how to join the grievance the Union will file on behalf of all employees who dispute their Year 2 placement.
COMPARABLE EXPERIENCE REVIEW (CER) CHART
We are proud to share the chart outlining the comparable experience and education that will be credited for each job title represented by UMMAP in Year 2.
As background, in the contract, UMMAP and UM agreed to come back together after bargaining concluded to negotiate the credits for each title. Members of the UMMAP Bargaining Team proposed and won significant advances for many of the 148 job titles that UMMAP represents.
The CER Chart is a binding agreement between the union and management. Use it as a reference to determine if you received full credit for your comparable experience and education.
CALCULATING YOUR CER ADJUSTMENT & YEAR 2 RAISE
Here’s how to do it:
- Scroll down alphabetically in the CER Chart to find your job title.
- Look at the last column (“final comparable experience credits”).
- Calculate the number of full credit days of experience you have. (Be precise, use a calculator like this.) This will be (a) time performing your current job duties but not at UM plus (b) time doing related or comparable work at UM and elsewhere. Do not count time you’ve been performing the duties of your current job or job series (associate, intermediate, senior, etc.) at UM.
- Do the same for half credit experience you have and divide by two. The maximum number for this result is 1826.25 (= 10 years x 365.25/2).
- Add the results of steps (3) and (4).
- Add the number of days performing the duties of your current job or job series at UM through May 15, 2025.
- Divide the total by 365.25 and round to the nearest integer. 2.4999 rounds to 2; 2.5000 rounds to 3.
- Add one step max for any education/credentials listed.
- Add one step max for any certifications listed.
- If you believe you have comparable or relevant experience and/or education/credentials/certifications that are NOT LISTED, count those in steps 3-9. Management *must* count what is listed on the chart, but may disagree whether other things are comparable or relevant. See below about joining the grievance.
- If the resulting number is higher than your current step, you will move up to the step equal to this number. This is the “correction” of your initial placement.
- If the resulting number is equal to your current step or lower, there is no adjustment to your step; it is already correct for your work experience and education.
- For November raises, you will move up one more step for a 1.25% increase (unless you are at step 30) and everyone’s salary (including those on step 30) will increase 3% since the whole scale increases 3%. You can find your salary on the 2025-2026 Pay Charts.
Official CER adjustment notices started going out last week and continue this week. If you have not received your notice, don’t panic. You should receive it soon.
It is too late to submit a CER adjustment request. The deadline was July 31st. However, if you were hired after Year 1 raises took effect (4/27/25), you should have been placed on the scale according to your comparable experience and education. If that did not happen, you should join the grievance.

YEAR 2 PAY DISPUTE PROCESS
If you believe your Year 2 pay rate is incorrect, please fill out this Year 2 Pay Grievance form to request to join the Union’s Class Action grievance.
Unit chairs and staff reps will evaluate all grievance form submissions as they come in, but we must ask in advance for your patience. The Year 1 Pay grievance process was mostly successful but it has taken many months and we are still wrapping up the final few cases.
Please act promptly to evaluate whether your Year 2 raise is correct according to the terms of the contract. If you need assistance, contact your steward. If you believe your raise to be incorrect, please fill out the grievance request form ASAP.
